NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course exposes the student to
several schools of thought regarding defensive shooting techniques.
Although the course is designed to avoid giving students too much information
too fast, or giving them too many choices, the course is not confined to
one rigid or dogmatic system.
The
course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable, state,
federal or local law. It is much more than a routine shooting course. It
is important that participants have sufficient maturity and life experiences
to be able to assess various situations and make mature decisions.
Participants must be experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery
of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the
firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from
this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following:
1. NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate.
2. NRA First Steps Pistol Course Certificate.
3. NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program (Pistol disciplines)
4. Pistol Qualification Card
5. Military DD214 with pistol qualification
6. Concealed carry permit
7. Pass the Pre-Course Assessment.
The
course is broken down into two, four hour sessions. The first four hours
is classroom work. The second session is held at the club range near
White Stone and, under the supervision of the NRA instructors, will put
into practice the classroom topics involving firearm self-defense within
the home.
Personal Protection Outside the Home
NRA
Personal Protection Outside the Home courses will be held in 2012 as follows:
|
Thursday August 2 at 1800 hrs classroom & Saturday August 4 at 0830 hrs & Sunday August 5 1230 hrs. at range. |
The
NRA Basics of personal protection outside the home course introduces
students to the knowledge, skills and attitude involved in safely, responsibly
and effectively employing a concealed handgun for self- defense. This
is an intensive course, as the student must learn and practice many diverse
shooting skills in order to respond quickly and appropriately to the broad
range of threats he or she may encounter outside the home. Similarly
the student must also learn and understand the unique safety and legal issues
that apply when a concealed handgun is carried in public. The course
covers the legal ramifications of concealed carry, including who can legally
carry a handgun, when concealed carry is and is not permitted, the legal
and ethical ramifications when responding to a life-threatening encounter
using a concealed handgun, and the legal, moral, emotional and social aftermath
of the use of deadly force outside the home.
This course is an intermediate level shooting course on how to use
a firearm for self-defense, and requires students to have already mastered
safe gun handling and basic marksmanship skills prior to attending the course.
Students must have completed the
NRA Personal Protection in the Home Course
or pass a pre- course evaluation prior to attending this course.
